Camp and Commute

The majority of the personnel employed at the mine will live elsewhere in the state and most will fly to site.

Fly in fly out services operate to and from Mt Magnet’s airfield, from where personnel are transported by bus to the accommodation village and plant/mine site.

The village is located on a gentle sloping hill approximately 4km from the plant. The village units are spaced around the north slope of the hill to provide an aspect away from the operations area. The rooms are high quality self contained units with centralised dining, sporting and recreation facilities. Residents will enjoy most of the amenities experienced in similar remote locations including wet mess, fully equipped gymnasium and an outdoor leisure facility comprising a swimming pool and tennis court. Foxtel is available in each room.

Accommodation in the permanent village is provided for 200 people in addition to a 170 person temporary construction camp. Both camps are operational.  The village will provide up to 370 rooms during the construction phase.

Mt Magnet

The nearest town to the mine is Mt Magnet, which is approximately 80km away.

The Company is in regular discussions with the Shire of Mt Magnet as to the mine’s progress and community relations generally.

The Company will continue to pursue a policy of active engagement with the Mt Magnet community.

Badimia People

There is currently one native title claim that covers the Windimurra mine (Badimia claim 6123 of 1998). This claim was accepted for registration in 1999, but has not yet been heard or determined by the Federal Court.

The existing native title claim does not affect the project as all existing Mining Licences have been granted prior to the native title claim or with the consent of the claimants.

Ethnographic and archaeological surveys have been carried out at the mine and the Company has fulfilled its obligations under the Aboriginal Heritage Act. As part of the consultation process, Windimurra has developed beneficial relationships with the local Aboriginal people.

Windimurra has and will continue to pursue a policy of active engagement with the Badimia people regarding the construction and operation of the mine, Badimia employment opportunities and ongoing Heritage site issues.

Windimurra Station

The mine is located on the Windimurra Pastoral Station. The holder of this pastoral lease is Westag Holdings Pty Ltd.

The Station is used for grazing sheep and goats. The project area will affect some 660 hectares (total disturbance) which represents less than 0.3% of the total area of the pastoral lease. The pastoral lease covers approximately 260,065 hectares.

The Station manager lives in buildings that are part of the old Windimurra Homestead complex which is some 4km south of the mine and ore processing areas.

Windimurra has and will continue to pursue a policy of active engagement with Westag Holdings regarding the construction and operation of the mine and its interaction with ongoing pastoral issues.

Employment Opportunities

The Company is and will continue to seek employees for roles at the mine and at its head office in Perth.
